colorful fall capsule | three ways to wear wide-leg cropped jeans

This is it! Today I’m sharing my last three of ten outfits in my colorful fall capsule! Of all the pieces in this challenge, these wide-leg cropped jeans were the wild card. A friend gave them to me after she decided they didn’t really work for her and I only wore them one time before deciding to include them in my capsule. I have to admit, I was actually most worried about being photographed in them since I was having a hard time gauging how they looked on my body. After seeing these photos, though, I have a much better idea of what styling works and what doesn’t. Ready to see how I wore them?

When wearing something I’m unsure about, I first like to try pairing it with things I know I love. I already knew I liked my striped shirts with this sweater from this outfit, so I decided that would be a good starting place. I love the play on volume and levels here with the tucked in shirt, long cardigan, and wide jeans. Whether these jeans are actually “flattering” or not, this outfit made me feel really great. Plus, this color combo? Can’t be beat.

For look number two, I again coped one of my favorite outfits from earlier this year. Being that it’s the same formula, I should love it, but something about it doesn’t feel quite right. I think it’s that the blouse leans so soft, romantic, and feminine, and the jeans are a little too retro-meets-casual to be a worthy replacement for my culottes. The proportions work, but the denim just doesn’t do it for me!

Last one, y’all! I go back and forth on how much I like this one. I think wearing the blouse un-tucked would have caused some proportion issues, but I also don’t love how it looks tucked into these jeans. I think, like with the outfit above, my big issue with this look is how blue the jeans are. Maybe if they were black jeans or actual culottes in either black or another color.

And that’s 10 down! I’ll be sharing a recap of the challenge and all the outfits in one post next week, so stay tuned for that! In the meantime, should I keep these wide-leg cropped jeans? How would you style them?

I think they look great! I have a similar pair and while they aren’t a regular rotation item, they’re a nice break from skinnies that I wear all the time. I’ve worn mine with a linen peasant blouse and espadrilles, the tee and cardigan combo, and in cooler weather with an oversized sweater.

  • I like all three outfits, but wonder if you might like the second two more with the addition of a belt. Not sure why, but sometimes that seems to be the piece that helps me pull two more disparate elements in an outfit together.
