I’m back at it today with a another round of remixing from my colorful fall capsule challenge! Of all 10 outfits, these two are at the top of my favorites list. While these looks featuring my new corduroy button-front skirt are pretty different, I think they both fall within my new style ID! (Read about that here if you missed it.)

I have to admit that I’m a little surprised I love this outfit so much because it reminds me of something I would have worn and blogged back in 2013. Turns out I just think it’s a timeless look! I’m still a fan of color-blocking and I’ve got an affinity for skirts with long cardigans. This also feels quintessentially fall to me. I could totally wear this to a football game or a pumpkin patch or to grab hot chocolates and walk around town (maybe I’d even add tights if I lived in a state with real fall!).
My initial hesitation was this outfit being a little “too on the nose,” which is something I actively avoid when getting dressed, but I think the color of the skirt makes it work better than, say, a blue denim button front skirt.
A quick tip from this outfit: if you’re not sure what color shoes to pair with your outfit, especially with two different neutrals involved (navy and brown, here), try a color instead of another neutral!
Okay, so while the above look is pretty specifically casual, the one below could work for day or for night.

I wanted to give this top another go with a different skirt because I actually wasn’t crazy about how it looked with this one, at least in photos. I think the proportions here are much better because the skirt is A-line instead of being so body-con, balancing the volume of the sleeves better. I also love the color balance going on here – the blouse’s light-colored florals make it pair well with light colors like blush and tan just as well as with black!
I was thinking this might be my Thanksgiving outfit because the skirt is so comfy and I could add tights if it happened to be cold, but I probably shouldn’t because of these sleeves. I keep wearing this top to dinner and regretting it because its dang sleeves get into dang near everything. So cute for non-food-related events like work, a coffee date, or a movie; less great for eating pizza.
Which look is your favorite? I honestly love them both so I’m curious to see what y’all’s preference is!
Psst! Wanna pin from this post? I’ve got a graphic at the top as well as one below to keep handy on your outfit inspiration board!
